A variety of owners and riders from well-known Arabian horse
farms stretched all across the country worked to put Arabians on
display under the direction of Martha Murdock from Martha
Murdock Stables in Versailles, Kentucky. Arabians made their
first appearance in the Opening Ceremonies of the World
Equestrian Games. Some of the costumes and tack used in the
Opening Ceremonies were authentic historical pieces on loan from
the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation. Arabians appeared in
daily demonstrations at the Equine Village, a central site at
the Kentucky Horse Park that housed both exhibits from various
equine organizations and a number of world-class equine
demonstrations and other special events
The Games were led off by the sport of Endurance, won by
Maria Ponton of Spain on her 10-year old French bred Arabian
Nobby, just 7 weeks after delivering her first baby.
Endurance Team medals were awarded to the United Arab
Emirates, France and Germany. Riders from the US, Canada, India.
Namibia. Quatar, Spain, Bahrain. France, Germany, as well as
others competed in the Endurance event. showcasing Arabian
Horses.
